Good Afternoon Parents and Families,

I hope this message finds you well and you are enjoying the last few days of our summer holiday. It has been a busy summer here at The Block Island School. Our construction project is well underway, and on track, with much work being done at the elementary school. We have had a successful summer with regards to new hires, and added a number of staff to our faculty. We will welcome Ms. Karen MacBeth as our new Special Education Director/Assistant Principal, Ms. Morgan Holubesko will be an elementary special educator, and Ms. Madeline O’Neil will be our new 3rd grade teacher. We are excited to welcome them to our school and to our wonderful faculty.

Lynne Cunningham has sent you information regarding the policies and rules and regulations our school will follow for the 2024/2025 School Year. It is important to read these documents thoroughly, and become familiar with information contained in them. Please call the school (401) 466-5600 with any questions or concerns, as well as comments and suggestions you may have regarding these documents.

We are starting our school year with a new schedule, please make sure you review the beginning and ending times, 7:50am through 2:10pm, as well as our yearly calendar, which is different from last year. Again, please call the school if you need help in understanding any of our scheduled changes.

As I had mentioned earlier, we are excited to begin our school year. Teachers will have been involved in professional development prior to starting school, and are ready and willing to provide your children with the education they deserve. Block Island presents its own set of unique circumstances and challenges, but I truly believe, as a community, we can address and solve any and all issues that may come our way. I look forward to joining you as we wish all the best for our students, faculty and staff this coming school year. Good Luck and take care.
